Sheri,
There was no town named Clayton in Converse Co. There was a Clayton Community located 7 miles N/W of Glenrock on Box Elder Creek. It was originally the 1240 acre homestead of my ggrandparents, Thomas Charles "Jerky Bill" Clayton and wife Alice Caroline Young Clayton. They filed on it in the early 1880's and raised 5 children, one being my Grandmother, Mary Drucilla Clayton. They are all buried in the Glenrock Cemetery. In the 1920's it became the Clayton-Abadie Ranch, and in 1984 was bought by the Bixby Cattle Co. of Douglas, WY.
George P. Clayton was the enumerator for the 18th precinct, 23rd district, 1900 Converse Co. census. I have not visited Glenrock for 2 years, but if I remember correctly there is a George P. Clayton buried there. Also an Earl Clayton and his wife Gertrude. In digging in Converse Co. I have seen the name "Plin" and Vern Clayton mentioned a few times, but not being related, did not write down where.
All my Clayton's came from IL. MO. KY. and VA.
