any ties to Templeton ca 1760s VA out there

Hi Folks - trying to narrow my Tempeton ties to the Clayton line in the 1760 time frame in Virginia. My great(4)grandfather Thomas Templeton ca 1765 - ca 1810 had middle name Clayton, and I'm thinking it could be his mothers (currently unk) maiden name. My Templeton's came down from Hanover County, through Charlotte, Bedford, Pittsylvania Counties then into NC in Iredell/Surry County border. Any reference to Templeton's as witnesses on deeds, wills, etc would be most welcome
Regards, Jack Templeton
