We have Cleeton, Cleaton and Clayton in the DNA project who ave close matches and are clearly related. Do you have a male relative with the Surname Cleaton who would do a DNA test? If so, get their agreement and YOU sign up and pay for and make yourself the contact and ship the test kit to the relative. On the Clayton Board I answered a question of HOW to sign up. Search this forum for DNA to get same details.
Can't guarantee it will solve your problem, but it might.
I have one document in Chesterfield VA where the name Cleaton and Clayton were use for the same poerson but spelled differently.
