Hi Ami,

Yes, we are cousins! Since Cornelius and Joseph were brothers, then that makes us cousins. As far as to why Cornelius took his mother's maiden name, we don't really know, but there are various suggestions, though unproved. One speculation that has been rumored in our family is that Cornelius and his father and a falling out, so Cornelius went to live with his mother's parents and took their name to defy his father. I don't have my genealogy information available right now, so I don't remember the other things that were mentioned in that regard. I am still hoping to find the answer to that question someday.
But my biggest question right now is this: who were Sarah Clear's parents? I have found no record of their identity at all, ever.

Best wishes to you on your research. I was so glad to hear from you. Thank You, Ami,
Katy Clear-Monroe
