Hi--I am only just beginningmy research of the Cleckler family. I had difficulty in finding this forum because I did not know of this spelling of the name--I had it as Cleaker or Cleeker. My interest focuses upon the John Cleaker who purchased land from Thomas Robinson/Roberson of Putnam County, Ga. in 1812 and 1816.Thomas Robinson Jr. m. Rebecca Cleaker in 1808 in Putnam County, Ga.I believe that Thomas & Rebecca, possibly some other brothers ofhis also, moved to Fayette County, Ga. and then to Coosa/Chilton Counties in Alabama.Does anyone know what the origin of the Cleckler name is?I am wondering if it is Dutch?Joseph Robinson who may be a brother to Thomas married Catherine Sanders (Xanders Dutch spelling) and her family came out of eastern Tennessee. Can anyone tell me more about the John Cleckler of Putnam County, Georgia?Or more about the Clecklers of Chilton County, Alabama? My email address is:[email protected]
