don't know if this means anything but I think the name Clerc, comes from the Scottish Clan Clerke of Ulva. When the Reformation hit Scotland, part of the Clan Clerke, a deeply Catholic Clan, escaped to France. My Clark(or Clerke)family came to America from Lorriane, France. I know Lorriane is north of Switzerland, but it's close enough.Clerke means "Cleric". hope this helps u, by the way Clan Clerke disbanded in 1820 and is no more, it was part of Clan Chattan(which is a large group of smaller Clans)
