This was Shores Erastus Clinard, the son of Jacob Franklin Clinard and Cora Alice Shores, Jacob's first wife.Jacob Franklin Clinard married his second wife, my g-g-grandmother, Mary Lou Mathis, in 1897.Shores was born in 1880 in Decatur Co, GA.
I have a copy of his obituary, from the newspaper in Mathews Co, Gloucester Co, VA, where he resided many years. Here it is in full:
MATHEWS (VA) - Major Shores E. Clinard, retired medical officer, Army of the United States, died in a Richmond hospital Friday night, August 6, (1948), following an extended illness.
A funeral service was held in Arlington National Cemetery at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, with full military honors, followed by interment.
For the past four years Major Clinard had resided at Mathews Courthouse with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis D. Forrest, who survive, in addition to two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Samuel Forrest.
The 1945 edition of Biographical Encyclopedia of the World carried under "Who's Important in Medicine" the following brief biography of Major Clinard:
"Major Shores E. Clinard, Medical Corps of the U.S.A.
