Clingan Genealogy - Scotland
Hi All,
I am Ian Clingan, and have been in contact with Wally for a while. This branch of the Clingan family have stomped around the Kirkcudbright area of Scotland since 1703 (confirmed) and earlier (unconfirmed). There are other branches in Edinburgh and Glasgow as well as England. Canada and Australia also have there fair share. I am aware that due to weaving trade there were a number of crossings between Scotland and N. Ireland, however there is a possiblity that my branch came from Ireland many, many years before that though I have no details. There is also the possibility that the Scottish branch in fact were sent/taken to N. Ireland during the clearances (which didn't just affect the Highlands) and became citizens of N. Ireland.
However, I will just have to keep digging in that area of research. Meanwhile, anyone requiring details of family/social history/family area etc in Scotland please feel free to cntact.
Keep up the good work
Ian Clingan
