Dorothy,
Suppose Hieronymous didn't get off the boat but just sailed on to America. That fact would be relevant only to those people descended from him, and those persons do not, as far as I know, even claim an Irish connection by marriage. If he had any brothers they weren't on that ship.A Jeremiah, a Peter, and a Margaret, all Clontzes, are on record as being in Great Britain around that time.Margaret, dau of Peter, married a Scot in Argyll.Jeremiah married a Sophie Erwin just across the water in Ireland. This is consistent with what we know of the Palatines in Great Britain.THAT Jeremiah, born about 1715 and thus at a time that makes it possible that he was son of an older brother of Hieronymous and was indeed born in Holland (along the migration route), if he came of age in Ireland as the son of one of the Clontzes who stayed there awhile, might quite naturally marry an Irish woman.THAT is consistent with the Palatines in Ireland. And marrying, he and his wife might decide to go on to America (possibly to meet up with family). And THAT is consistent with what we know of the Palatine Irish.Except for the continuity of the use of the name Jeremiah we have no reason whatsoever to believe that THAT Jeremiah was the son of Hieronymous.More logically, he was a nephew.
Mike
