Dear Jann :

Andrew Clough/Clow and Mary Shutts were my ggg-Grandparents. I know next to nothing about them, unfortunately.

Andrew Clough/Clow was born in either Vermont or Canada; so at one time I thought that he was probably a member of the large Clow family in northern Vermont & southern Quebec, a family of Dutch origin which fled the Albany NY area after the American Revolution. These Clows were blacksmiths by trade.

I have really run into a brick wall with Andrew Clough/Clow & Mary Shutts and cannot connect them to the large Clow & Shutts/Schutz families (another Loyalist family of Dutch origin; also blacksmiths) in Franklin County VT & Mississquoi County, Quebec.

Here is what I have picked up on the Internet regarding John Edward Clow.

Jann, if you have not already done so, you might want to contact Marlene Simmons, the Eastern Townships genealogist, who does have records for Milo Clow in her data base. Marlene's website can by found by using as your search engine. (Type in Marlene Simmons).

If you ever stumble across the marriage of an Andrew Clow to a Mary Shutts (late 1830s to very early 1840s), please get back to me.

Best of luck to you with your family research.

Regards, Tom Brown
