This is steve behr and I still disagree about the Klop/Clubb thing. Lds listing for Peter Klop (who died l753 Cocalico twp, Lancaster Pa) mentions that he came on the ship Lydia Sept 29, 1741. Whether there is another Peter Klopp in Tulpehocken or not, seems vague. However at the Berks county historical society in Reading Pa I just found two warrants for land in Tulpehocken for Peter CLUBB. I don't know whether it resolves the issue or further confuses it. The first warrant is for 85 acres 'pursuant to a warrant the 6th day of November l734, surveyed to Peter Clubb a certain tract of land situate between the Tulpehoccen and Suetara Creek in the county of Lancaster." To further confuse this, it has "this man's name said to be Peter Klop.". The 2nd warrant is l738 for l00 acres adjoining his original land and is labeled Peter Clubb. Can someone help me? Why would the land warrant be for Peter CLUBB. Peter Klopp died Sept ll, l753 in Cocalico as there is mention of his will, though the will does not survive. His son Peter Klop is there in l760's and appears in the church records of the Reformed as well as the Lutheran church of Tulpehocken.
One possibility is that Peter Clubb was the name used by the surveyor who was English. However why would they spell it with a double b. Another possibilty is that Peter Clubb, english or german, shows up in Tulpehocken church records as Peter Klop. However we know that Peter sr died there l753 and Peter jr is there l760. OUr Peter Clubb of Lincoln co NC is in NC in l752. They really can' be the same guys.
I wonder if Peter Clubb in the l734 warrant is possibly related to the Clubbs of Maryland. Maryland is one county away. Then later they get confused with Klop.
Anybody willing to shed some light, but not heat on the subject? I'd be glad to send copies of the warrants if it would help. I find no further deed references for Clubb or Klop, or similar name in Lancaster to correlate to these properties.
