Julie,
I discovered this morning while looking at the 1880 census that the A.J. FOX listed as daughter age 9 is probably Alice J. Smith and they erroneously listed her as a Fox. So from all appearances it looks like Mary married Alexander Fox abt 1873 and had those two children W. T. FOX Son M S W 6 TN Fa: TN Mo: TN
W. E. FOX Dau F S W 1 TN Fa: TN Mo: TN
I'm not at all certain just yet how all of this is going to pan out, but I'm tellin ya things are lookin pretty promising. I live in Tenn and am going to go to the Jefferson Co. library in Dandridge and see if I can find any records there. Perhaps I will get lucky and find something since this appears to be in the location of this North Carolina land grant around Solomon's Ferry and Inman Bend.
Solomon's Ferry is located on the Nolichuckey River just before it connects with the French Broad River. The Nolichuckey is the dividing line between Jefferson & Cocke Counties. I do know that the Gentry families were also in Jefferson County, so would lend direction to the land being located in this vicinity.
I'm still composing a scenario of what I do know along with what you have researched and how the families seem to intertwine in this area. I would bet my last dollar that this is all connected to the Click family. Sometime prior to 1830 a bunch of our Click's settled in Cocke Co and I always wondered what made them go there. It appears to me that they already had family residing there.
More later.
