My GGgrandmother was Catherine CLUNES ( CLUNAS) b. abt 1775 and m. Donald MELVILLE abt. 1798 in Loth , Sutherland. They had Minnie, John, Robert , Alexander, William and George all born in Loth.A knowledgeable individual on the Sutherland mailing list suggested that all CLUNES in Sutherland are descended from John CLUNES of Cromarty recorded in 1449.On the IGI you can see CLUNES, CLUNIS, CLUNESS and CLUNAS variations from Loth, Dornoch, Rogart and Lairg in Sutherland .
