Since posting my original reply in 2005 I have made contact with some wonderful people in Spartanburg, SC that have helped me so much.I do not now believe that my John Hayden Hoy is a son of your Patrick Hoy.I now believe that my John Hayden Hoy is the son of William Hoy who I believe to be the brother to your Patrick Hoy.In the 1810 and 1820 Census of Spartanburg Co, SC there is a Patrick Hoy listed as being 26-45 yrs and another male of the same age in the same household. In the 1830 Census there is a Captain William Hoy 40-50 yrs and a Patrick Hoy listed seperately of the same age in the Spartanburg Co, SC.I think they lived at the same residence when they came to America in 1804 until after the 1820 Census. How sure are you of the Coan spelling?I have seen it listed Coan, Cowen and Cowan.John Hayden Hoy married a Mary Snoddy, daughter of Isaac and Jane Snoddy, son of John Snoddy, Sr..I have just gotten all of my paperwork together to apply to the Daughters of the American Revolution under John Snoddy, Sr. I would be glad to share what I have on the Hoy, Coan and Snoddy lines in a ged-com file if you are interested. If you are, please write me direct at my home e-mail: [email protected]
