In a previous post I mentioned that Bertha Righter and Sheldon Cubberly said that Mary Cubberly was the daughter of Robert and Katrina Pearson. There is strong evidence that this is not the case.
Coberly genealogist Bradley Arthaud presented, in his article, footnote 9, Page 113 of THE VIRGINIA GENEALOGIST, vol. 26, #2, April-June, 1982 evidence against the identity of the earliest Mrs. James Cubberly as Mary Pearson.
Quoting from the footnote -- "An additional criticism of this book is the statement that Mary Cubberley was the daughter of Robert and Katrini (----) Pearson who died [in] 1704 and 1715 respectively. The only child in Robert's will is a son Robert (William Nelson, Calendar of New Jersey Wills, v. l, 1670-1730 [New Jersey Archives, vo. 23; Paterson, N.J., 1901], p. 357). Catherine Pearson's
will, proved 11 April 1715 (ibid., p. 356) names a son Robert and a
granddaughter Mary under 21. The younger Robert's will, proved 22 June
1753, identifies his daughter Mary Nipe and names her eight Quigley
children (Honeyman, op. cit., v. 3 [New Jersey Archives, ser. 1, vo. 32],
p. 248). All Pearsons were of Nottingham township. Mary (---) Cubberley
cannot have been Robert and Catherine Pearson's daughter or granddaughter."
