Does anyone have any solid information on the origins of the family of Daniel Cobia (b . 1714)? I am aware that a Huguenot origin (Corbiere?) has been suggested, with some support from references to a Claude (later Nicholas) Cobia in Bavaria in the 1660's, in an area later (after the 1684 revocation of the Edict of Nantes) associated with Huguenot immigration.

However, I find the Kobi family of Bern, Switzerland, which frequently used the first name Niclaus, suggestive.

Any information out there?
