Dear Margery,
I have been looking at the Cockayne's of Ilkeston to see if my line was connected in any way as my Gt Gt Grandfather, James, was living in Little Hallam at the same time as all your line. He moved to Riddings sometime between 1849 and 1851 shortly after his first wife had died of Cholera. Your notice about Joseph and Ruth has confirmed that there was not a direct connection as far as I can see, but I would very much like for you to contact me to see if we have any information that may help each other. My line seems to have originated in Nottingham. James (b. about 1816) was the son of John (b.1796), who was the son of William (b. 1771). There was another William (b.1753). The first William had a brother called Joseph but he would have been too young to be yours (b.1808), perhaps the other William also had a brother called Joseph?
Please e-mail and let me know.
Best regards,
Martyn Cockayne.
