Cockburn family from Northumberland, England
HI..
I am still trying to trace my Cockburn family from New
Brunswick.I discovered that a ship called the Cornelius
sailed from Berwick (pronounced Berrick), England in 1837
with inhabitants from the North Northumberland area (next
to the Scottish border) who were heading for life in Canada.
They arrived in St. John, New Brunswick on 1st July, and
they then took a ship called the "Waterwitch" to Frederickton.
Among the settlers from the Border area and Glendale was
a family named Cockburn.John Cockburn came with his wife
Betsy and children James (22, tailor), George (20), Isabell
(18), /Betsy (16), William (14), Charlotte (12), Andrew (10),Th omas (7) and Ralph (3).
This could be my family, as some of the names are similar.
My James Cockburn did have a father named John, so I think
I may be on to something here.My Cockburn family did come
from New Brunswick and the St. John area.
