Mary Cockburn, dau of George 1746, (m) John Aaron
I think I should post on the Aaron, Cockburn & Cogburn forums about Mary Cockburn, dau of our George #1 Cockburn & Elizabeth Snider.Mary (Cockburn) Aarondied in Franklin Co., GA about 1807 in childbirth with a daughter, therefore , having predeceased our George Cockburn, she was not named in his 1834 will probated in Franklin Co., GA.
Mary Cockburn appears to have married JOHN AARON, son of Wm B. Aaron, probably in Wilkes or Franklin Co., GA about 1797.This couple named their first child, JOHN AARON, Jr. (b)c. 1800-1803;their 2nd son was George William Aaron (b) 1805 Franklin Co., GA, (named for the 2 grandfathers, George Cockburn and Wm Aaron). The 3rd child was a daughter, name unknown.
Mary (Cockburn ) Aaron then died in childbirth about 1806 or 1807 in Franklin Co., GA.
George Cockburn's gift of 150 acres of land on Hunter's Creek to JOHN AARON is dated 1805, the same year of George's grandson, GEORGE William Aaron's birth.I have seen no other record showing that our George Cockburn gave away any other land, which indicates to me that the baby was indeed our George Cockburn'sgrandson and named after him.
Some Aaron descendants of John Aaron, Jr. and George William Aaron and other Aaron researchers accept that the mother of these two boys was Mary Cockburn, daughter of George Cockburn and Elizabeth Snider.
George Cockburn (m) Elizabeth Snider and Wm B. Aaron (m) Mary Snider, daughters of John Snider whose will in Amherst Co VA names both the daughters with their married surnames.
George Cockburn and Wm. B. Aaron both migrate to Wilkes/Elbert Co. GA by 1885.George Cockburn is in Franklin Co. GA in 1790, owning 400 acres on Hunter's Creek, Middle Broad River.
Early 1800s he sells to Wm Aaron some land on Hunters Creek. Then in 1805 George Cockburn makes a deed of gift of the 150 acres on Hunter's Creek to John Aaron, Jr. in the same year that the baby, George William Aaron, is born to John and Mary (Cockburn) Aaron.
Few marriages in Franklin Co., GA were recorded before 1805.I can find no proof of marriage for Mary Cockburn and John Aaron, Jr., son of Wm B. Aaron and Mary Snider.
As far as I know the only proof that we have for any of George Cockburn's children is those named in his 1834 will recorded in Franklin Co., GA.He may have had other children who predeceased him that we know nothing about.
Perhaps some descendants of John Aaron, Jr. and his brother George William Aaron can provide information about their ancestress, Mary (Cockburn) Aaron, wife of John Aaron (b) 1775 Amherst Co., VA and of Franklin Co., GA (son of Wm.. B. Aaron of Amherst Co VA and Franklin Co., GA).
I would appreciate knowing any information that anyone has about this little family.Thanks...
Peggy(This George Cockburn (b. 1746 Sct.) is my paternal gg grandfather.)
