John Cockey Owings along with Paul Skidmore purchased the Slate Creek Iron Works from Jacob Myers. Paul Skidmore was Thomas Jefferson's Architect. John Cockey Owings was a nephew of Susan Cockey who married Thomas Gist. Thomas Gist was Christopher Gist's brother. The Myers family also seem to be related to Daniel Boone. I believe it's through Daniel Boone's wife Rebecca Bryan. Governor Alexander Spotswood, who introduced Iron Making into America, was married to Ann Butler Bryan. I believe the Butler family are the same Butlers of Union General Benjamin Franklin Butler the Attorney General under Martin Van Buren. Felix Grundy replaced Benjamin Franklin Butler. The Grundy's are married into the Iron Works Myers family. General Grant and the Mosby's also seem to be related via William Grant who was married to Elizabeth Boone.
