You won't believe this, but as sson as I logged off I checked through my papers on the family and found your ancestor.I seems that we are related through two different branches of the Cockey family. First, let me give you the information on Thomas. He was the parents of Edward Owings and Charlotte Deye-Colegate. Edward was the son of Joshua Owings and Mary Cockey. The Owings and Cockey families were very close. Many members of each family had properties that bordered each other and the two families intermarried with each other from the early 1700's to the late 1800's. The Owings family has left its mark on Maryland history with the establishment of the town of Owings Mills. During the Civil War both families supported the Confederacy, and there was even a small skirmish at Owings Mills. I don't have any more information on the Owings family other than Joshua's father was Richard Owings born 1660 in Llanllugan, Wales. Mary Cockey was the daughter of Cpt John Cockey and Elizabeth Slade, whom I am also a descendant of through their son Thomas, this is our first blood connection. The other one is through Charlotte Deye- Colegate. Her mother was Cassandra Cockey-Deye, daughter of Col. Thomas Cockey and Penelope Deye. My relation is Cassandra's sister Charlotte, whose descendants married back into the Cockey family several times continueing my Cockey pedigree. There is quite alot more information I can give you on the Cockey and Deye family if you want. just let me know.
