on 10/21/99 you posted a message about the document on ebay. i think if you investigate this further you will find that the murdered man was the son of edward and his wife. edward cockey owings was murdered by slaves on the same date as that on the document. the mistake is propably in th statement "wife of the slave owner" when it should read son of the slave owner or ex of estate of the slave owner.
i descend from joshua and mary (cockey) owings. you will find my line under mr wort.
ruth ann owings married in scotland c. mo. john torbin peter lang wort. they had a long with other children a son william robert wort. he was my grandfather.
i have collected info on all branches of my family for years and own the owings books 3rd edition and the edition before it. also have a photo copy of the first book and a photo copy of the notes and research done by donnell macclure owings, phd. this was put together in book form by someone who gave it to the lds library in salt lake city. since i live in denver, co. i have access to a lot of research material at our main library. we can also order records through interlibrary loan from all over including salt lake city. feel very fortunate. i have found great sites on the net that i go back to frequently. mary
