Hi List, I have been researching the Owings family since 1993 because of a Owings family Bible found in the basement of my father-in-law who died in 1983.This Bible was printed in 1805 and has the birth of Robert Owings as 15 March 1692 and not 1698/99 that has been published in many books on the Owings family.
I am out to prove a relationship of the Owings, Cockey and Boone families in MD and in PA. The Owings family started with Richard Owen who changed the spelling of his name to Owings. Richard Owen is found in the Welsh tract started by the Welsh Quakers ca 1682 it the twps of Radnor and Haverford Chester CO PA on the county line next to Philadelphia CO.
The Radnor Monthly Meeting est. the Gwynedd MM where the Squire Boone family are listed.
I am going to attempt in the next few months est. a connection to Humphrey Boone who died 1709 Balti. CO MD to the Squire Boone family. Humphrey Boone on his will has a Thomas Cockey listed.
Here are some other interesting records I found in my research on my own Cope family ( I believe I am from the same Cope family that Gilbert Cope published 1861 and he is in the Genealogy Hall of Fame in Arlington, VA ) .
1768 Rowan CO NC tax list of Morgan Bryan JR-
William Cope and sons William, James and John.
Elijah Owings and brother Basil/Basil/Basleel Owings-sons of Henry and brother to Robert Owings b) 1692.
others on this tax list- Morgan Bryan JR- marr. Mary Forbish, Elinor/Ellander Bryan- marr. William Linville, William Bryan -killed at Fort Boone KY 1780 marr. Mary Boone-dau. of Squire and sister of Daniel Boone,William Grant marr. Elizabeth Boone-dau. of Squire & Sarah Morgan, John Willcockson marr. Sarah Boone dau. of Squire, Joseph Bryan marr. Alylee Linville- she is believed to be the mother of Rebecca Bryan who marr. Daniel Boone.
John Cockey Owings- wife Colegate Dye Colegate- listed on a marriage record 1775, Gunpowder MM MD.
John Cockey Owings listed at Fort Boone KY that was est. by Daniel Boone.
I believe the Owens, Morgans-Boone related, Lloyds- Boone-related , Jarmans- Boone related are the ones listed in the Welsh Tract 1682-1684.
This story is still in the working stages and I post what I find to the Cope Rootsweb maling list and send this to Boone desc.s who are involved with the Boone Newsletter called the Compass.
