Lawrence Cockshott/Cockshutt Belthorn, Lancashire
Posted by: Glenda Burnett Date: February 13, 2002 at 10:26:47

Hello,

Would the following Christening record of Church Kirk for Lawrence Cockshut of June 15, 1823 be significant to anyone?

Lawrence was listed as the son of James and Mary, of Bell Thorn, but I suspect this spelling was later changed to Belthorn.

James Cockshut was listed as a weaver.

If anyone shows a connection to this family, please respond. I suspect this Lawrence is the same who married Mary Galloway, daughter of David Galloway on September 14, 1840 at Church Kirk.

This family was quite possibly in Blackburn, before coming to USA.

Is there any chance there might be a Cockshott connection to Mary Anne Marsden of Blackburn born about March 1838? The similarity of Cockshott names arouses my curiousity and makes me wonder if the Cockshott she married connects to mine or if by some void in my research there could be two marriages for Lawrence.

My Lawrence Cockshott ends up in Renick, Randolph CO MO.
Lawrence Cockshott has a daughter named Elizabeth, born August 23, 1842 in Tyldesley Bongs, Lancashire, England. She marries Thomas John Longdon, born in Manchester, Lancashire, England on July 16, 1843. Thomas John and Eliabeth Longdon touch down in Kewanee, Henry CO IL before settling in Higbee, Randolph CO MO, where they are buried.

If you would like to discuss or compare info or desire surname affiliations, please contact me: quest4longdon@yahoo.com Thank you.
