Dave, I am 99.9% sure that we are looking at the same woman.Claire Grenier has also previously been identified as Claire Deligne, and Aglae Grenier. Her name was in fact Claire Aglaee Grenier and she was the last child of Francois Grenier and Catherine Boutin dit Cardinal, his third wife. Those linesI could give you back to France if you follow the female lines as well.
Unfortunately, Medard Brault is another question. He has been my roadblock and the reason for my long search.Robert Brault, who is the family expert on the line, confirmed the location of Mathilde's marriage to Alex for me as Sacred Heart in New Bedford. That Mathilde is Medard and Claire's daughter I have no doubt. My records indicate her birth on 20 Nov., 1865, and her baptism at Notre Dame de Stanbridge on 3 Dec., 1865.Her godparents were Godefroit Morin and Anne O'Shea. I have a copy of the register from ND to document that. Mathilde's brother namedhis only daughter after her.My mother's name was Eva, possibly after her own maternal grandmother but the name does seem to run in the family.
If Sacred Heart still exists in New Bedford, I will obtain their address and write them. The family lived in the area of Highgate before going back to St. Armand and then Bedford, QC, then in 1889 moved to the areas of Salem and Fall River, MA, before returning to Vermont and settling in Craftsbury, probably around the turn of the century. Thanks for sharing your father's source; that may have been a registering of the marriage with the church as well as the town and wouldn't be the first time that has happened. The pieces are all beginning to fit a little better but I still cannot get beyond my second g grandfather. So MA death records and the purchase of the farm in Craftsbury are the next logical steps I guess.
I will be back in touch.Many thanks.Marlyn
