I have run across a Codwise in my search for Leaycraft genealogy data. Her name was Elizabeth Codwise, daughter of Christopher Codwise of the Kings County, New York Militia. She married Captain Viner Leaycraft (born in 1740-something) and they had six children: Mary, William, Viner, Christopher, John, and George in Brooklyn, New York. Cpt. Viner Leaycraft was a mariner and had the sloop "Little Betsey",and the sloop "Fame." I have found records where he took these ships into port at Charles Town, S.C.(that's the way it was spelled back then) in 1769 and 1764. I know this isn't much, but I hope you can use the clues to find something more. If you run across anything on the Leaycrafts, please let me know.
