Good evening Dr. Cofield. In my Gresham research I have come across the name Gresham Coffield and a few other Coffields in early VA land records. You most likely already have these. It apperas to me that he was in VA before 1640 on the Nansamond River in the Counties of Isle of Wight and Nansamond. Elizabeth, Abr. and William are other early Coffield names seen as transportees near the Rappahannock and York rivers.
Are you familiar with one Gresham Woodard who was residing in or near Wilkes Co., GA in 1774? I recently came across his name on a document for one of my Burkhalter ancestors
there. Wishing you much success in your research of the Coffield line. Best regards, Carlton Wood
