Coffield Family Genealogy Forum

Laura,Sorry I haven't replied any earlier to the forum, it's been rather busy here (Seattle) of late. I haven't been able to find anything more than you have. My last name is Cofield (with one 'F'), and I'm descended from Cofield's in Ohio, but it's not the same line. In the spirit of sharing, my line looks something like this: James COFIELD b. 4 May 1821 ,Noble Co., OH, d. 5 Nov 1891 Cokato, Wright Co., MN, md. 1841 ,Noble Co.,Ohio to Mary Elizabeth POWELL b. 21 Jul 1821 Ohio, d. 13 Sep 1905 Annandale, Wright Co., MN. They had six children, including: ---John COFIELD b. 1844 , Noble, OH, d. 1929 Los Angeles, CA, md. ???? to Amanda PARSONS b. ????, d. ???? Coffeyville, KS. They had nine children, including: ---Charles William COFIELD b. 14 Jan 1870 French Lake, Wright Co., MN, d. 1 Sep 1957 ???? md. 28 Sep 1895 French Lake, Wright Co., MN, to Alice DYKEMAN b. 5 Apr 1879 French Lake, Wright Co., MN, d. Oct 1972 Payette, Payette Co., ID. They had 12 children, including: ---Dewey McKinley COFIELD b. 7 Dec 1899 Brainerd,MN, d. 8 Apr 1983 Boise, ID, md. 7 Jun 1926 to Edith Edna James COMER b. 27 Jun 1904 Walnut Ridge, Lawrence Co., AR, d. 20 Apr 1975 Boise, ID. Dewey and Edna had four boys, including my father. I've looked around a bit at various web sites, www.familysearch.org, orvf.com (Ohio River Valley Families Homepage), the SSDI search facility at www.ancestry.com, but I haven't gotten any further on your line or mine. I did manage to trace Alice Dykeman back through nine generations to Johannes Dyckman, one of the earliest settlers of New York (1640's), back when it was called New Amsterdam. But as for the Cofield's and how they got to Ohio....... I did just discover a thread going on under the Cofield (one 'F') Genealogy Forum about Thomas Coffield (Harriet's father) that might prove interesting. Folks there don't seem to know when or where Thomas was born, so you might want to enlighten them. Happy hunting!
