Joseph Francis "Papaw" Coffman
LINCOLN - Joseph Francis "Papaw" Coffman, 84, of Lincoln died Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
He was born Dec. 16, 1921, in Jefferson County, the son of Samuel and Catherine Bray Coffman. He married Theresa Ferne Boswell Stover in 1963 in Benton; she died in 1994.
Mr. Coffman graduated from the University of Illinois and the University of Illinois Law School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a first lieutenant in Europe. He worked as a claims adjuster with State Farm Insurance Co. and at Laborers Local 895. He attended Jefferson Street Christian Church and was a member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Mount Vernon.
Survivors: two stepdaughters, Peggy Stover (husband, Donald) Irvin of Mount Vernon and Rosita Stover (husband, Marvin) Jenkins of Lincoln; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and brother, Shuford (wife, Evelyn) Coffman of Mount Vernon.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln, Frank Bush officiating. Burial: New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.
