Cherokee hogwash!
I hear there is a rumor going around, that the name Cohea is of Cherokee origin.
Many of us Coheas are of native origin, but that is not because of the name Cohea. You can find Coheas/Cohees on the rolls in the Cherokee,Creek, and Chickasaw nations.Alot of our people married into several different tribes. I,myself, am married to a Navajo. We have granchildren in the Arapaho,Navajo, and Papago nations.Would someone interpet Cohea as Papago? I don`t think so.The closest I can come to Cohea in Tsa-la-gi is go-i,witch means grease. Don`t let them slick that one by you!
My grandmother was native, and her maiden name was Cook.Of course Cook is of Anglo origin as Cohea is Celtic.I am proud of both my Celtic and native roots.John Ross was John Ross, and not John cohea.Let`s not confuse people by making false claims. There are also some black Coheas out there, does that mean that Cohea is African?Of course I`m also interested in those black Coheas. Our family is very diverse, and very interesting. But let us keep to the facts.
