Robert.
My maternal grandmother was a Cohea, her name was bertie viola Cohea she was the daughter of William Henry Cohea born in mississippi in 1850. In our family through oral tradition I was told the Cohea were German but as of last weekend I met someone doing research on a Richard Cohea born in Talbot Co. Maryland about 1786. His Richard past through Tennesse and settled in Effingham Il. From him I heard for the first time of the French origin of the Cohea's. According to his family tradition the Cohea's are decendants of a Frenchman by that name that settled in the Baltimore colony which included all of Maryland but as of yet has not been documented. This Richard of Talbot Co. Maryland had two brothers one who moved to Mississippi and started a branch of the Cohea's there, I think I am a decendant of this brotherI just need to fill in the gaps. My great grandfathers family moved to Texas when he was yet a babe about 1851. I would like to hear from you and exchange Info. I am sorry I cant offer more on the family origin but in due time as we work our way back it will come to light. Good luck in your search and look forward hearing from you.
Jim Mitchell.
