"Otto Christ Cohrs was born on the family farm in Dovray Township, Murray County, MN on December 26, 1915, to Edward and Anna (Prigge) Cohrs.He was baptized on February 27, 1916, and confirmed June 28, 1931, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dovray, MN with Paster H. Wiergand and Pastor Robert Hieser respectively. His baptism Bible verse was John 1:29.II Corinthians 9:6 was his confirmation verse.His family grew to eleven brothers and sisters.Otto attended Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church until it closed and then came to Grace Lutheran Church where he attended for the rest of his life.He attended country school District 97, and lived on the family farm until 1945 when he moved to the farm he and his wife, Stella, lived on.Otto and Stlla Smith were married on September 10, 1958, by Pastor Arthur Nickel at Grace Lutheran Church.They retired and moved to Westbrook in 1995.Otto farmed his whole life.He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, and woodworking, making many items for friends, family, and his church, including library shelves, book cart, desk with shelves and the memorial box for the church.He also helped and cared for neighbors, friends, family, and his church.Otto served on the Dovray Township Board for about 35 years and was a member of the Heritage House and the Senior Center, also serving on both boards.Otto passed away Monday April 24, 2006, at the Westbrook Hospital at the age of 91.
Otto leaves to mourn his wife Stella; daughter Karen; four grandchildren; (Kimberly Jo Mielke, Lisa Mary Mielke, Lora Stephanie Hermandez and William Otto Mielke); five great grandchildren; (Kyrsa, Austin, Cecilia, Jesse, and Camden); his brother Ernest and sisters Edna (Leo) Zens and Viola (Clarence) Nichlasson; nieces; nephews and many friends.Preceding him in death were his parents Edward and Anna (Prigge) Cohrs; his infant brothers George and Thomas; brother Walter and sisters Rosa Vosberg, Martha Vosberg, Caroline Knudson and Lillian Scott.
Funeral services were held on Friday, April 28, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook with Rev. Roy D. Williams officiating.Organist was Betty Rupp.Special music by LeAnn and Bob Krueger.Congregational Hymns:"How Great Thou Art" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus".Honorary casket bearers were Mary Lida, Leo Vosberg, and Charles Johnson.Casket bearers were Bill Mielke, Scott Wajer, David Jorgenson, Paul Cohrs, Dean Zens, Dale Vosberg, Edward Cohrs, and Bruce Jorgenson.Interment in Pleasantview Cemetery - Dovray, MN.Arrangements by Westbrook Funeral Home Westbrook, MN,Nathan Stephens and Tim Kulow - Directors."
