Pat, thank you for the info. Emma's date of death is helpful as it would fit into my scenario but that last name of Mitchell may not fit. My Emma's husband, Robert Hermann said he was a widower in the 1900 census, and I would put the possibilty of Emma giving birth to a daughter in 1891, leaving Robert with two children, and then marrying a Mitchell quite slim. I'm trying to track the mother of Ethel Hermann, whose name is Emma. Ethel's first son was named Wilson Hooper Alvey. I was going on the assumption that Hooper may be Ethel's mom's maiden name, and Wilson would turn out to be the name of the family that took in Ethel after her mother, Emma, had died, when her father moved the two girls to Washington, D.C. Did you follow all that. Thanx again, and I'll continue the search.
