Robert Elkins (Coldiron) from Kentucky

Hi all, I'm new to this. I thought I'd get on here and try to find some information on my grandfather's family history. My grandfather was named Robert Elkins but I was told he changed his name to Elkins from Coldiron. For what reason, I don't know. I do have some other names that may be related.
I also know he was from somewhere in Kentucky and had several brothers--one was named Isaac. He moved to Michigan at some point with his wife, Margaret (Bowman) Elkins. They had three children; Willard, Christine and Donald (my dad.) Other than that, all I know is that there is a big connection with bluegrass music throughout the family.
If anyone has any information, I'd surely appreciate hearing from you and thanks.
Julie Elkins
