Coldiron Family Genealogy
(2002 Update)

Research and compilation of family records has continued during the past year. Interest in the family history and genealogy is increasing, and our family continues to "grow" with many contacts from relatives working on their immediate family. Thanks to all of you for your interest and for submitting your family data and history.

A BIG Discovery: Joanna Coldiron Waldon's family Joanna's family is our biggest discovery of 2002. Joanna was a daughter of George Coldiron [3584] and Susan Onstott. George was a son of Conrad Coldiron [105] and Rachel Hendricks. We have known from census records that George and Susan had two daughters previously unaccounted for. Research by Carolynn Waldon, Ruby Stroup, and Connie Schults now proves beyond reasonable doubt that one of these daughters was Joanna. Joanna was born about 1814 in Kentucky (probably Knox County) and moved to Missouri in 1831 with her parents. She married James Waldon about 1838, probably in Missouri, and they had six children: Susan C., William Mathis, Nancy A., Rachel T., John Lewis, and Phamy E. We are very grateful to Carolynn, Ruby and Connie for their detailed research which has allowed us to add 700 Coldiron descendants to our family records. These many families have spread throughout Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and California. As a result of the research of these families, we now know the maiden name of George Coldiron's wife to be Susan Onstott. Her surname was previously unknown.

Jesse Howard (Brownie) Coldiron and Gerald Everett Wheeler (whose deaths were previously noted) were prime researchers of the Coldiron Family. We are greatly indebted to them for their outstanding contributions and untiring efforts to record our history and genealogy.

Coldiron Family Genealogy Book A few copies of the book published in April 1998 are still available. This hard-bound book of 825 pages is entirely about Coldiron genealogy, and reflects everything we knew about the family at the time of printing. If you or other family members would like a copy, send a check for $49.00 to the address at the bottom of the page.

Family Stories By far, the most popular section of the Coldiron Family Genealogy book has been the Family Stories (about 215 pages). I am always looking for additional stories to further document our family history and record more details about how we and our ancestors lived. If you have not done so, I encourage you to submit your story for possible inclusion into the next edition of our genealogy book.

Coldiron Web Sites If you have not yet discovered them, here are two internet web sites devoted entirely to research and exchange of messages related to the Coldiron Family. I visit these sites (and others) almost every day to see if there is new information available.

Family Reunions There are several Coldiron Family reunions held around the country each year. I have a file of these announcements and try to keep track of them in case I'm contacted by someone who wishes to attend one near them. My wife Pat and I host one of these reunions each year on the first Saturday of March at our house in Brooksville. Any of you and your relatives are always welcome to attend.

Updates of Your Family Information I am always interested in receiving any updates on your family and relatives. This includes new births, deaths and marriages, plus any significant happenings and events in your family. Please send all information to me via letter, e-mail, or phone at the addresses below. Thanks! It is always helpful to have the information as complete as possible, but if you don't have it all please submit whatever you can. The following may be helpful in submitting information:

Birth, death, and marriage information include full names, and place (city, county, and state) the event happened.

For all females, show their complete maiden name rather than their married name.

To avoid confusion, show all dates like this (example): 23 Jan 1942

For all persons who have died, please provide the place of burial (name of cemetery, city, county, and state).
