By coincidence, I came across a Cora Coldiron while researching a few days ago. I was following up on George W Coldiron, youngest child of George Coldiron b. abt. 1783, Rowan Co, NC and his second wife Hulda Majors Dameron b. 1803 in Virginia. I have heard that George and his first wife, Susan, moved from Harlan Co., KY to Missouri in about 1831.

1870 Census: Cora, age: 2/12 (2 months old) (so b. abt. May 1868 as census was done in July) in Jackson, Jasper, MO
father: George W Coldiron, b. abt. 1849, in MO
mother: Mary, b. abt. 1852, in MO

1880 Census: G W, Mary and Cora are living with George's sister Susan E (Coldiron) Coonrod, who is a widow with 5 children in Precinct 4, Jack Co., Texas. Cora is now 10 years old. Perhaps he moved to Texas to help his sister out with the farm after her husband died ?

I did not find this family in later censuses. If they moved to Oklahoma sometime after 1880, it was a territory then and not a state, so perhaps censuses there were not done until OK became a state.

One of George's older 1/2 brothers, James Lacurgas "Jim" Coldiron (my g granffather) did move to Deer Creek, Indian Territory (now Oklahoma) in the eary 1890's. My grandmother was born there. I have heard that others travelled with them, and perhaps George W, Mary (Hammer) and Cora were among that group.

Hope this helps, and happy researching,
Ellen Stevenson (PA)
