My Father William Jr. tells me his Father William Nelson Senior changed his name from Colegrove to Colgrove. He left a farm family in upstate NY at the age of 17. He changed his name because his father was a slave driver and he was the oldest of 13 children. He moved to NY City to escape from his father. I am looking for anyone that knows more of this family lineage. My Father thinks his Grandmother or Great Grandmother may have been American Indian.
Sincerly,
William Nelson Colgrove III
