John Louis Colgrove and his wife Lucretia were in Olney, Richland County, IL by 1845 when he was commissioned a J.P. on 11 Aug 1845. His son, Byron, called Barney, was born born in Olney in 1846 according to his [Byron's] enlistment record. They had another son Lewis, born about 1840, who died in California about 1859 and a son John born in 1852. This family could not be found on the 1850 census, but they were on the 1855 state census. Lucretia was a widow with two sons living in Olney when the 1860 federal census was taken. I have been unable to find out where and when John was born, or when he and Lucretia were married. I don't know Lucretia's maiden name. Byron served as a hack driver in the 6th Illinois Cavalry from 1861 until the end of the war. By 1870 he had moved to Mississippi County, Arkansas. Does anyone know anything about this family? I'm especially eager to find out Lucretia's maiden name.
