The names are one and the same. My mother was a Colgrove. In the book, The History and Genealogy of the Colegrove Family in America by William Colegrove published in 1894, he bemoans the fact that many of the family had dropped in "e". It appeared to have happened in my line with my great grandfather, Thomas Hord, who lived in Forney, Texas. His father was Jedediah of Kentucky.
