Hi Bettie,
Thanks for the info., I did realize later that Kitty Coltrane's name was Margaret, not Mary, on that census. Also Sandy Benito sent me info. that she may have already received from you........
I descend from the Lamkin's of Carroll Co. VA thru my, Sarah Elizabeth (Lizzie) Lamkin, b. 1878 in Carroll Co. VA. She marr. an unknown Hill, can't figure out whether they divorced or he died, but Lizzie moved to Tipton Co. TN in later 1900. She had a son, my gr.father Hill, b. 1896 in Carroll Co. and a baby dau. named Mattie Hill who died shortly after she came to Tenn. I was born in Tipton Co., so were my parents, but I was raised in Memphis. I now live outside Nashville, TN......

My Lizzie Lamkin Hill had only one brother named George T. Lamkin, he was born 1874 in Carroll Co., their parents were Thomas H. Lamkin and Sarah Elizabeth (Bettie) McCraw. Their mother died in Carroll Co. Va, 1879 and their father remarried to an Amanda Schuler........George marr. his 1st unknown wife abt. 1892 and according to the later census, he had 2 daughters then his wife died probably shortly bef. 1900.

I'm trying to help Sandy Benito who is descended from Minnie Faye Lamkin, prove her link to my Lamkin's. She has given me all the info. she has on Minnie Faye. I had thought that possibly Minnie Faye was kin to the Coltrane's, that possibly her mother was a Coltane. I'm now sure that her mother was a Martha Williams. I found a Williams family in 1880 Carroll Co. living very near my Lamkin's and they had a dau. named Martha, age 14. She would have been a few yrs. older than George but that was nothing unusual........
I'm 99% sure that my George T. Lamkin is the same George Lamkin who was Minnie Faye's father, just a matter of proving it. He had 2 dau.'s named Lizzie, c1892, and Lura, c1894, in Virginia by his first wife, according to the later census. I believe that Minnie Faye was his 3rd child and she was probably a baby or small child when Martha Williams Lamkin died. Martha might have died from a 4th pregnancy for I believe she probably died closer to 1900 and the baby probably died too. I need to see if I can find someone who can find a death cert. on her.......

I believe my George T. Lamkin boarded Minnie Faye out to the Coltrane's because he was leaving for Surry Co. NC aft. Martha's death and couldn't take her with him but he also might have done it sooner because of his wife being sick......I recently found he is in Mt. Airy Township, Surry Co. NC in 1900 and only had the daughter Lura with him, he's living with a Gill family. The daughter Lizzie listed as Lizza Lambkins, is with a George W. Hawks as her guardian on the 1900 Carroll Co. school census, Fancy Gap dist. George Lamkin probably found families to board Lizzie and Minnie Faye with but couldn't find anyone to take the child Lura, maybe she was too much to handle, (grin). My George T. Lamkin is back in Carroll Co., Fancy Gap dist. by 1905, he's on that school census as George Lampkins, parent or guardian of Lisey and Luray Lampkins........But I haven't found Lizzie Lamkin on the 1900 census with this Hawks family yet... She may not have got counted for she may have not been boarded out to them until aft. the 1900 census was taken in their area. George may have boarded Minnie Faye out sooner since she was so young and she therefore got counted on the 1900 census with Margaret Coltrane. The 1900 school census was probably taken when the 1900 school year began. I believe George's 2nd wife was a Sarah L. Gill, who is with her parents on that 1900 Surry Co. Nc census, in that same household, she's age 16. A Sarah E? appears on the 1910 Carroll Co., Pipers Gap dist. census as wife of my George T. Lamkin, age appears to be 25, b. NC, her 1st marr. and his 2nd marr., they have 3 dau.'s by 1910. Lizzie and Lura are with them, ages 17 & 16..........
So if you know anything abt. the Lamkin's of Carroll Co. VA, could you let me know, any little bit might help, many thanks for you help, Kay Hill Woods of Tenn.
