COLVINS & CALVINS from Ireland - DNA study
If you have ancestors from Ireland, are there any COLVIN/CALVIN surname males in your family who might participate in the Colvin/Calvin DNA group on FamilyTreeDNA? We really need more people in this surname study to help all of us with our ancestors.
My ancestors were from Creevlea/Crievelay townland near Clones in County Monaghan, Ireland. They were Presbyterian, but some also registered life events at the Church of Ireland (which was the official church). Our oldest proven ancestor is William Colvin/Calvin, born about 1757 and died 1837 at Creevlea in Clones parish. He's buried at Stonebridge Presbyterian Church cemetery.
This COLVIN/CALVIN family is said to be of French Huguenot descent, but we have no proven connection to a specific Huguenot ancestor yet.
I'm always glad to share information and research notes,
Annie Crenshaw
