Searching for unpublished material about the life and military service of Henry Newton Comey. A farmer in Hopkinton, Mass., Comey (1840-1932) started the war as a private in the Second Massachusetts Infantry. He rose to become captain of Company E. He participated in numerous battles with his regiment, including Gettysburg, where he suffered a wound after being struck in the arm by buckshot and a bullet. After the war, he played an active role in veteran's affairs, including service as a commissioner of the Petersburg National Battlefield.

A collection of his writings was published under the title "A Legacy of Valor: The Memoirs and Letters of Captain Henry Newton Comey, 2nd Massachusetts Infantry" (The University of Tennessee Press, 2004).
