Joel.I appreciated your informative posting about Margaret Conde. For a person who came from such a prominent background, it seems that we should be able to identify her parents and related birth data.
Looking at the birth/death dates of The Great Conde, his siblings, and their children, it seems most likely that Margaret was more like a grand-niece rather than a niece. The Great Conde (Louis II de Bourbon, Prince of Conde), lived from 7 Sep 1621 to 11 Dec 1686.His brother, Armand, Duke of Conty, b. Paris 11 Oct 1629, died 21 Feb 1666.Margaret was not a child of the brother Armand, since he died about 34 years prior to her birth. So, maybe she was a child of one of Armand's sons.
There is quite a good Nobility website, accessed from the LDS familysearch website.Go to the Royalty/Nobility area of their sitemap, click there, then click on Nobility, and go to the site titled The World Roots Royal Pages; or, http.worldroots.clicktron.com.That site has quite detailed data on the several generations of Condes. For Armand (1629-1666), it shows two sons, one who died in 1685 (so he is not Margaret's father), and another, Francois Louis Conde, b. 30 Apr 1664, died 22 Feb 1709.He had 7 children, but they all seem to be well accounted for, except one born in 1693, probably too early to be Margaret.
There are a couple of other possibilities for Margaret's parentage. The French nobles at that time had many illegitimate children, and many of these were also brought up as privileged people. So, Francois Louis could have fathered Margaret with a mistress.Or, perhaps Francois Louis had an illegitimate brother, who could have been known as a Conde, and he could be Margaret's father.
It seems a little puzzling that none of the other children or Francois Louis Conde, who were in Margaret's peer group, had any trouble with the French authorities about being Protestants. They all married extremely well and lived full-length lives.Perhaps the Protestant who needed to leave France was not necessarily Margaret but rather her husband (or husband to be) Thomas DeVane.
Perhaps there are some French websites that could provide data on the birth data for either Margaret Conde or Thomas DeVane.
