Norman origin of the Condell name
Hi, I'm (Robert) Lee Condell currently of Sydney, Australia. Grand-son of Robert (Bob) Condell who was based in Limerick, but was one of four brothers from Wicklow. A stand at a show here on 'origin of names' printed me off a detailed history showing that the Cundal's arrived in the Norman conquest initially to Yorkshire and later to Lancashire. Centuries later after the Tudors and the passing of the crown to the Plantagenet's the families under various spellings of the name spread to the New World, some to the US and others to Canada. A protestant branch of the family moved to Ireland as followers of Cromwell and settled on confiscated land in Carlow AND Wicklow under the name spelt 'Condell'
My grandfather Bob married Frances (Eades) of Limerick who became the first lady Mayor of Ireland and Bob established an office supply business which was called RH Condell's originally in Catherine street which my dad Alan Condell moved to Roches street and is now part of a national chain. My dad Alan is an only child and I have a twin brother Jeff in France, Laurene in the UK and Wendy in Tipperary, Ireland.
