Maybe Michael had brothers that came over and stayed in the New York area.

I read that most likely Conroy, Conro, Connery, O' Connor, type names are the same family but since most people couldn't write the Connroy name has several different surnames connected to it. Sometimes there were language barriors or translation problems too and there wasn't a set way of spelling the name etc.
