Thank you very much for scanning "The Conwells of Dyer's Delight" by Tilney Clarke Conwell and making this very valuable resource available to researchers and descendants of Yeates (or Yates or Yeats or whatever) Conwell. The manuscript is full of primary source material that Tilney defends -- perhaps to a fault! The manuscript has become my main source of information, and I wish I had found it earlier.I have some gripes with it -- for example, the original land grant probably predates William Penn and so must have come from the Duke of York -- but they are minor.
The manuscript says David Miers Conwell took the originals of the photographs. These came through horribly in the Acrobat format. Perhaps these could be scanned as .jpeg files and be made accessible? And where are the other source materials that went into the writing of the manuscript that are not specifically referenced?
I am a descendant of Yeates through John Ingram Conwell, the great-grandson of Yeates through Elias. My Aunt Laura is named for her grandmother, Laura Riley Conwell, who was one of the daughters of John Tilney Conwell who was John Ingram's son.(I am going into a little detail here because there was more than one John Tilney Conwell.)Knowing I am a bit of a genealogy freak, Aunt Laura has asked me to research the Conwells. She is the keeper of the Conwell Family Bible started by John Tilney Conwell in about 1850.She provided me a copy of the lists of births, deaths, and marriages as a starting point (which I need to post separately). I did a lot of research on the Internet, and was proudly adding the finishing touches to the family tree when I ran across the "Dyer's Delight" manuscript. Back to the drawing board.
As a final note, I find it rather sad that the feds tore down the 18th century Conwell structures on Broadkiln Neck in order to return the Prime Hook area to its "natural" state.Under today's laws, historians and archeologists must be allowed to document and inventory these old houses before they are torn down.
