Mary Coogan 8/15/03
I am researching descendants of William Coogan in NY. Earliest record is NYC 1850 Census, 17th Ward. William Coogan (employed as a waiter, 22 years old, from Ireland) living with his wife Sarah [henry] (23 years old, from Ireland), and their baby, Martha. John & Mary Lamb and their baby, Jane, were residing at the same residence at the time. I have found the births of William & Sarah's children: Margaret, Anne Elizabeth, Mary Catharine, at St. Brigid's on 119 Avenue B, New York, NY, and Henry in Albany, NY in 1962. At that time, Sarah is listed in the Albany directories as a widow. I want to find out what part of Ireland I am descended from, but I have come to a dead end and I am frustrated. I can't find them on any passenger lists? Where, when and how did William die? Where is he buried? Death certificate? Can't find him in the civil war records. Was he injured and/or killed during one of the riots in NYC. Where can I get information on that? Could he have been at Bellevue Hospital? Where can I find those records? Has anyone has researched the Lamb family they were living with in NYC 1850. Maybe they came over together? No one on the Coogans Research Website seems to be connected to my William... Any help? Any lookups? Any suggestions from anyone greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Carol Coogan
