Taylor Stewart served in the Civil War.
Taylor Stewart, married Mary E. Cook, 1 Dec 1866 in Kendall County, Illinois.
There was a interesting report in the 25 Feb 1875, {Kendall County Recorder} published i n Yorksville, Illinois, in Kendall County Seat. "We can hardly appreciate the amount of suffe ring there is in Kansas and Nabraska by Newspaper Report; It is only when we get a private le tter from a known friend that we can feel the disaster caused by the grasshopper pest. Mr. Ta ylor Stewart, formerly of
Kendall Township, writes to S. W. Brown from Franklin County, Kansas, that the people are alm ost entirely destitute; that the farmers have been trying to help one another without appeali ng for aid, consequently that county, has recieved no outside help.
Now they are clear down, to nothing scarcely for themselves, and their horses and cattl e so poor as to be almost helpless. 'Mr. Stewart says; so we, as a suffering people, appeal t o you and your neighbors for help. If you can get any corn or oats, or flour, do so and sen d us a car load if possible.'
Mr. Stewart is thouroghly honest man, and what he says maybe relied on. He is the brother-in- law of W. J. Windett of Bristol. His post office is Rantoul, Kansas.

He was one of many ministers in the Gilliland Clan. His brothers were all ministers. He h ad many grandfathers dating right back to Plymouth Rock, Massachusetts many others accross th e ocean were also ministers his famous for father Willie Gilliland of Glosclo, Scotland amon g them.
He was a very kind and thoughtful man he would mow the lawns for many of the elderly peop le in his congragation even though he was in poor health himself. In the later years of his l ife he was unable to do many of the things he enjoyed doing do to his health. Many a days yo u could find him out sitting in his swing just enjoying being outside. Harold went to meet hi s Lord on January 13, 1985 a very cold & snowy day he was laid to rest at the Oakhill Cemeter y, In Chetopa, Kansas on January 16,1985, under a shade tree. In Memory Of My Dad.......... . .
He is greatly missed by his children and I also miss him for he was also very dear to me. Th is reasearch is dedicated to him for he was always wanting me to research his family but I wa ited to long to begin, two weeks late to please him. He knew this was being researched but h e never dreamed I would find as much as I did. So I'm glad I was able to trace this tree bac k like I have.
