Dudley Cook Abbeville Co., SC/Elbert Co., GA
I can't find the names of the wife and children of the Dudley Cook who died about 1804. They are not given in his estate papers, or those of his father Francis, who left an inheritance to them.
A Nancy Cook bought a lot of the household goods, but there were several Nancy Cooks in the area.
Dudley is shown in the 1800 census in Abbeville Co., and an Ann is shown in the 1810 census with some of the same neighbors.
My g g grandfather, James Fenton Cook b. 1797, who married Margaret Baskin, is my brick wall. He lived in the same general area in 1850, next to Fenton Hall and near some of the same names seen in the 1800 and 1810 censuses. I can't find out how he acquired his 75 acres that were sold in 1853, or who bought it.
Francis Cook had another grandson named James Fenton Cook, but he is definitely not the same. First cousins were often given the same name.
I don't know if this line was related to Fenton Hall, if my ancestor was named after the neighbor, or if it is just a coincidence.
If you know anything about Dudley Cook, James Fenton Cook, or Fenton Hall, please let me know.I can share the information that I have.
