Hello Debra - I seem to have a great file accumulating on the Copps of North Devon and I knew when I read your message posting that it rang a bell. The only Richard Copp I can find that was born Bideford in 1874 was for the 1881 census entry for the Bideford 'Union Workhouse' he is listed alongside an entry for his sister Elizabeth A. Copp who was only 4 years old(born 1877?). This may explain why your great grandmother was taken to Australia by the Sisters of the Church. Hope this is of use to you. I seem to remember seeing other postings for these two on the Copp forum but I havn't time right now to go back and check details. I havn't had any luck with the Exeter connection though, but it may come with time. I'll keep watching for you. Best of luck.

Judy
